About RCB's Monthly Meetings
Regular monthly meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm.
You are encouraged to bring a couple of liters of your homebrew to the meeting. Other than shooting the breeze and tasting all the different beers everyone has brought, we try to have 2 structured activities at each meeting. The first is a blind judging, and the second is a beer raffle.
For the blind judging, the host will serve a secret beer in unmarked cups. This secret beer is usually a good homebrew of a particular style selected for study but may be a commercial beer of that style if no one has brewed the style lately. Everyone will taste the beer just as if they were judging it and fill out standard Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) scoresheets for that style. The objective of this exercise is to hone your beer tasting and analysis skills.
Entry in the beer raffle costs one bottle of homebrew or good commercial beer (no mega-swill, please!). The meeting host is the final arbiter of whether the entry is legitimate. Names of the entrants are placed in a hat and the last one drawn is the winner. The winner gets all the beers that have been entered! Good luck trying to leave the meeting with your prize intact...
Other guidelines that have been established over the years for the club's monthly meeting include the following:
The host will be the "Keeper of the Beer". All beer brought to the meeting is given to the Keeper. The Keeper records who brought what, and the Keeper is then the ONLY person to open and pass a beer at the meeting.
The host is responsible for providing a "Judging Beer". Everyone will get that beer and judge it on a BJCP score sheet.
The host does not provide sampling glassware. Everyone should be responsible for bringing their own tasting glass (4-10oz in size, no larger please) to the meeting and not rely upon the host to provide them with one.
The host does not need to provide any other beer or snack, but he/she can if they wish.
You should also bring your own folding chair. |
